Obituary for Dr Douglas Charles Neil Pollard

Dr Douglas Charles Neil  Pollard
Pollard, Dr Douglas Charles - Passed away suddenly at Temiskaming Hospital on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at the age of 84 years.

Dr Pollard was born March 18, 1925 at Alliston, Ontario to the late James Gordon Pollard and the late Mary Frances Brown. He served his country during World War II at Gander, Newfoundland with the Royal Canadian Air Force where he worked as an Armourer and Leading Air Craftsman. He lived in Coleman Township where he owned and operated the Highway Book Shop since 1957. Dr Pollard received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from McGill University, a PHD in Psychology from Bernadean University in Nevada and in 1980 an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from Nippising College in North Bay. In December 2008, the author, publisher was given Canada's highest civilian honour, the Order of Canada for his contributions as a businessman, publisher and volunteer who, for more than 50 years, has championed the cultural and historical riches of Northern Ontario.

Predeceased by his parents; his first wife Jean [nee Hope] Bogart-Pollard; and siblings: Byron Pollard and Isobel Bloomer. He is survived by his loving wife Lois [nee Williams] whom he married May 2, 1986. Survived by step-sons from a previous marriage: Peter [Dorothy] Bogart and Paul [Elaine] Bogart all of Coleman Township. Also left to mourn are five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sisters: Ruth Smith of Ajax, Jeannette Butwell of Punta Gorda, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

The Pollard Family will welcome friends at the Buffam Leveille Funeral Home on Friday, November 27, 2009 from 2: to 4:pm and 7: to 9:pm. Funeral services will be held at the Buffam Leveille Funeral Home on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 2:pm. Reverend Kitty Miller officiating. Spring interment will take place at Cobalt Veterans Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice [by cheque only] will be gratefully acknowledged.
