Condolence From: Don Urban
Condolence: When it rained our mother would always take us to the book shop. Rain or shine it was always a pleasure living in the North. Most of our education was derived from the books we would bring back home after hours spent scouring the rooms. How fortunate we were to have the Highway Book Shop and Douglas Pollard as part of our youth.

Condolence From: Carol and Bruce Hodgins
Condolence: To Lois and family,
We extend our deepest to Lois and the family. Douglas will be sadly missed by all. Lois and Douglas encouraged me (Carol) to write a Wanapitei Canoe Tripping cookbook. It took me a couple of years to agree, not thinking I could do it. That was in 1982. It needed revisions as time went on, but instead a Canoe Tripping Cookbook II came out in 1999. The books were still in demand when Lois and Douglas went out of publishing. They directed me to Deborah Ranchuk in New Liskeard and Wanapitei Canoe Tripping III came out on August first 2009.

Condolence From: Carole Lyons
Condolence: Dear Lois,

My deepest sympathy of the passing of your beloved husband. Mr. Pollard will surely be missed by one and all. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the Pollard family at this time of sadness.

I’m thankful that our last encounters were filled with laughter, smiles, silly hats, and red ribbons.

May he rest in peace.

Condolence From: Bernice Lever
Condolence: Dear Lois and family:

Sending prayers and sharing memories of the grand publisher, Doug, was for me. Always supportive, so understanding of the problems writers have in reaching an audience. He truly deserved his Order of Canada for all his efforts for others. Bernice

Condolence From: John Houston
Condolence: To Mrs. Pollard and family.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Pollard today. My father (Hartley) considered Douglas a great friend, and he enjoyed the time that they spent together when he visited the Book Store over the years.

Please accept my condolences, and hopefully the fond memories of the past will help you through this most difficult time.
